Housing, employment...: new protections for families of sick children - 12 juil. 2023

A new victory resulting from joint work! Paul Christophe's bill, designed with Eva pour la vie and Grandir Sans Cancer, aimed at strengthening the protection of families of children suffering from a serious illness has been definitively adopted, after being enriched by the Senate. It brings significant progress for families in terms of employment, housing and the AJPP. It also extends the leave for announcing and bereavement of a child and sets up an experiment with the CAF to greatly simplify the lives of the families concerned.
The 7 articles voted on allow us to:
- Protect parents from dismissal when they have to reduce or stop their professional activity to support their child,
- Extend the leave for reporting a serious illness in a child from 2 days to 5 days,
- Extend bereavement leave to 14 days for the death of a child under 25 and to 12 days regardless of age,
- Facilitate access to teleworking for these same parents,
- Simplify the process for renewing the Daily Parental Presence Allowance ( #ajpp ) by removing the requirement for explicit prior agreement from the medical control service and allowing the CAF to pay an advance to beneficiaries within 15 days,
- Remove the measure capping the AJPP and AJPA paid to non-salaried workers in agricultural professions not affiliated to retirement insurance, to their collaborating and associated spouses and to non-salaried workers in agricultural professions ceasing their activities,
- Protect these families from lease terminations,
- Better support parents by experimenting with improvements with the CAF.

We thank MP Paul Christophe, with whom we have been carrying out in-depth work together - serious, effective and humane - for families of children suffering from cancer, serious illnesses, disabilities, for several years. We also thank senators Brigitte Micouleau, Marie Pierre Richer, Françoise Laborde and Hervé Guinet (Constance association) for their support in the Senate.

We are delighted that, for such a noble subject, parliamentarians, senators and deputies, and the government have spoken with one voice with a common desire to act quickly and well: a final adoption in 5 months, undoubtedly a speed record. The promulgation of this law by the President of the Republic will therefore be effective in July. ❤️
